Swedish guitarist Tobias Andersson new album Silent Cities features ten of his original compositions. Together with his ensemble, an atmospheric sonic space is orchestrated with guitars, trumpet, viola, bass and drums.
The modern city acts as a backdrop: the rushing and roaring contrasted by a glowing nocturnal silence. Out of the silence is born a music charged with wonder and mystery.

In the music, structure and opposing forces are in constant interplay. Drawing upon influences from nordic jazz and contemporary artists such as Kit Downes and Paul Motian, Andersson carefully introduces other elements like a melody reminiscent of Bartók, or harmonies inspired by renaissance composer John Dowland. Bringing together players with backgrounds in jazz, classical and baroque, the ensemble explores chamber-group dynamics in an improvising setting.
